Liberating Histories workshop
Newcastle City Library, 30th March 2023
In this presentation, the Liberating Histories team talked about feminist feeling in women’s movement magazines, a subject that stimulates strong feelings in those who remember the Women’s Liberation Movement and its key issues and campaigns. Members of the audience were invited to flick through copies of magazines such as Spare Rib, Outwrite, Shocking Pink, Red Rag, Mukti, Scarlet Women and Shrew and to think about feminist feeling and media activism. What emerged from this conversation was a strong sense of the vibrancy of feminist activism in the North East from the 1970s right up to the present day.
