The Gender Wage Gap

Inspired by Ms. magazine’s coverage of the gender wage gap in the US and its impact on Black and Latina women, we invite you to hop in our feminist time machine to see UK feminist magazine Shrew, 50 years ago, on the ‘triple exploitation’ of black women on the basis of their ‘class, their colour and their sex’ (Hermione, Shrew, Vol. 4, no. 5, Oct. 1972, p. 8). As Hermione, writing for Shrew put it:

“Sexism, class oppression, the kinds of labour needed in the economy – each reinforce the other in a vicious circle that affects all women, but continues to hit the black woman hardest.”
